The Seven Pillars of Health

The Seven Pillars of Health are as important to you as sunlight, water and soil are important to plant life. Does it make sense to see a wilting plant who is not getting any sunlight or water and think of another reason? Just as when your body is ailing does it make sense to look to prescription drugs when you fail to take care of yourself in any of the seven crucial aspects to your life?

1. Water

• Take your weight divided by two and that is the number of ounces of water you should drink a day. If you feel you really cannot drink that much workgradually towards your goal.Eating ample amount offruits and vegetableswill give you a quart of water.
• Drinking water at the right timesis crucial.Drink at least2 cups of water first thing in the morning. Drink 2 cups of water30 minutes before meals and 1 cup 2 and a halfhours after meals.The importance ofthe times to drink water willbe explained later.
• Try not to drink water excessively past 7 as it can interfere with sleep.

How can dehydration bea root cause toasthma, obesity, blood pressure, cholesterol, cancer, a weak immune system and heartburn?

• If you do not provide your body the amount of water it needs it goes into survival modeand produces"symptoms" of dehydrationthat we label asasthma, blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, heartburn, cancer. Ifyou do not drinkenough water your body willengagedin a drought management systemandprioritize who gets the limited water supply and who doesn't.
• Asthma - Histamine is produced when you are dehydrated.One of its job is to ration the water to high priority areas. What histamine also doesis constrict your bronchioles in order to prevent water losswhen you exhale. Your air sacs (alveoli) are made of very thin walls and need to be moist at all times so the narrowing of your bronchiolesserves to protect thedelicate air sacs from drying out from air flow.
• Obesity -The thirst sensation and hunger painoriginate from the same area in the brain.And the less water we drink the more we confuse the two. Somany people first reach for food when they are actually thirsty. That is one reason why it is important to drink 30 minutes before meals. Your brain cells are practically the only cells in your body that does not need insulin to receive sugar. Your brain demands hydroelectric energy from water but if it's not available it will use sugar as alternative source energy - hence you crave sugar andrefined carbohydrates.After your brain gets its energy from sugar, the rest of sugar is stored as fat because your body cannot use it since dehydration has inhibited the production and release of insulin. What increased water intake will do for you issharpen your sensesandbe more in tune with what your body needs.
• Blood pressure - When you are dehydratedyou experience adecrease in your blood volume.Since your body relies on constant (diastolic) pressure in order tomove blood along it tightens its blood vessels to compensate for this lossin blood volume - hence youhave high blood pressure.
• Cholesterol -When we are dehydrated 66% of the total water loss comes from inside the cells. Cholesterol, a waxy substance, forms on the outside of the cell membranes to prevent further water loss. It is especially important for people with cholesterol to drink 2 cups of water 30 minutes before meals. The blood is so concentrated and as it circulates through the blood vessels it robs water from the cells of arterial wall. In order to prevent your arterial wall from rupturing the cells amass cholesterol.
• Immune system suppression - There are two major groups of immune cells - Helper cells and Suppressor cells. Helper cells ignite the immune response whereas suppressor cells inhibit the immune response. There are twice as many suppressor cells as there are helper cells. Suppressor cells arevery sensitive tohistamine.
• Arthritis & Lower Back Pain - When you have limited water supply the body takes away water from "less important areas" like for one your joint capsules. The joint capsuleand cartilage are mainly composed of water. As your body takes water out it lessens the ability to shock absorb.There comes a point when you have bone rubbing on bone - hence you have arthritis. Your vertebral discs support 3/4 of your body weight. So you can see why water loss therewould lead to back pain.
• Cancer-When you drink ample water it flowsall throughoutyour body and particulary your cells.As water flows in and out your cells it washes out the acidic by products of cell metabolism. When you do not drink enough waterthe water in your body becomesstagnant and the acidic by productsremain inside the cell.DNA in your nucleus is very sensitive to acidity. And if acid is left too long it will corrode the DNA. Thistransforms the cell to reproduceuncontrollably and without regard tobarrier limitations.
• Depression and Neurological Disorders - Water is the main tool to wash out acidic waste and free radicals. When you do nothave enough water to wash out your body's waste your body uses essential amino acids, like tryptophan and tyrosine as "antioxidants" to neutralize the waste. Trytophan and tyrosine initiate the production ofbrain's primaryneurotransmitters and hormones. Thus the way your brain cells communicate with each other and the rest of your body is essentially disrupted.
• Diabetes - Tryptophan regulates salt intake. It is saltthat retains water inside our body. As explained earlier, dehydrationdepletes trytophan because it is used as an antioxidant. Since you no longer have trytophan toincrease salt intake or salt retention your body uses sugaras a substitute to retain water. This can explain your cravings for sugar and refined carbohydrates.Furthermore, one of histamine's assistant, prostaglandin E, if left in circulation for too long will inhibit your pancreatic cells from producingor secreting insulin. If this happens at anearly age the damage can be irreversible andthe person developsinsulin dependent diabetes.
• Heartburn- Unlike the stomach wall your small intestines does not have the same protective mucosal layer to neutralize the stomach acid. Your small intestines depends on the pancreas to secrete a watery bicarbonate solution (a mixture of bicarbonate and water) in order to neutralize the incoming acidicstomach contents.However when you are dehydrated the pancreas can only produce a limited amount of watery bicarbonate solution. Your body knows this and only allowsinto the small intestines from the stomach the specific amount of stomach contents that can be neutralized by the limited supply of watery bicarbonate solution.Therefore the remaining stomach contents that cannot be neutralized are left in the stomach. And remember the stomach wall is made up of 98% water and also mixes with bicarbonate to protect itself against stomach acid so when you are dehydrated you invite stomach acid to erode your stomach.At the same time when you are dehydrated the hiatus which is the opening between the esophagus and the stomach (which is closed tightly when food is not passing through) becomes lax. This allows the stomach contents to go into esophagus causing heart burn or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) especially when you lie down. Drinking 2 cupsof water 30 minutes before meals is especially important for people with this condition because it takes 30 minutes for water to be absorbed into your intestines and return back to your stomach to buffer the stomach wall.

• Never drink tap water as it is loaded with toxic pollutants.
• Though it isrecommended to get a wateralkanizer they are very expensive. Getting a water distillationdevice is affordable and removes allpollutants.Thoughit also removesthe water's minerals you can always replenish them through supplements.(Cell Food) Neverreuse plasticbottles asover time the plastic will leach chemicals into yourwateror food.

• Pay attention tothe number on the bottom of plastic bottles.Never reuseplastic containers withnumbers 3, 6 and 7 as theseleach chemicalsmore easily. It's better to use stainless steel bottlessince they don't leach chemicals. A good brand to go by is Klean Kanteen.

2. Sleep

What takes place during sleep?

• Sleep is when virtually all ofthe cells of your bodyare repaired or replaced.
• A growth hormone is secreted that allows children to grow, regulates muscle mass and controls fat.
• A hormone called leptin is produced which regulates your appetite. Thus if you lack sleep you tend to have a runaway appetite.
• Immune system is greatly strengthened.It increasesNatural KillerCell activity, which is an immune cell that kills viruses, bacteria and cancer cells.

For how long and when should you sleep?

• 7-9 hours.Sleep happens in cycles. There are 5-6 cycles a night and each cycle has 5 stages.It's important to get full sleep because eachsubsequent cycle becomes more and more restful and restorative because more time is spent on the latter stages. A good way of knowing whether you have had enough sleep is not needingan alarm clock to wake up.
• The optimal time to sleep is 9. If you have a serious illness try to sleep by then.I know that 9 istoo early for mostpeople so shoot for 11:00. According to Ayurvedic Medicine, one hour of sleep beforemidnight is worthtwohours of sleep after.

How should you prepareyourself foroptimal sleep?

• Avoidsugars at night.Sugars promote therelease of insulin which inhibits a major sleep hormone that repairsyour body. Sugar also spikes up and then shoots down making you wake up in the middle of the night.
• Exercise. Daily exercise allowsyour sleep to bemore restorative; sleep longer and faster.
• Dim down the lights 30 minutes before sleeping. This includes computer use since EMF exposure can interrupt the quality of sleep. Light inhibitsa sleep hormone to be secreted. Make sure your room iscompletely darkbefore going to sleep.
• Give at least fours betweenthe time you eat dinner and the time you go to sleep. This is because your digestive system shuts down during sleep.
• Remove everything you do not love or do not want in your bedroom.
• Open the window to allow for fresh air.
• Pillows are almost alwaystreated with toxins. Buckwheat (organic)pillows are a great alternative because they are toxin free and very comfortable because the buckwheat hulls conform to your neck and head.

3. Living Food

Why are whole foods important?

• Nutrients are as important to your body as sunlight is for plants. However when taken isolated through supplements they greatly lose their power. Therefore it is far superior to consume nutrients through whole foods sincethe thousands of different nutrients work togetherto create asynergistic effect.Just as all the parts to a car -the tires, engine, the gas -work togetherin order for yoube able to drive the car.
• The 14 most powerful superfoods are Blueberries, Salmon, Spinach, Oats, Tomatoes, Walnuts, Pumpkin, Beans, Green Tea, Broccoli, Yogurt, Oranges, Soy and Turkey.

Just as it is important to know what to eat you need to know what not to eat.

• I cannot emphasize any stronger how much you need to stay away from trans fat. You will often recognize them under listed ingredients as"hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated." Our bodies do not recognize these fats therefore they mainly accumulate in our body.They also disrupt so many of body's basic systems. With only a 2% increase in your body's trans fat increases your risk of heart disease by 36%.
• Processed meats - like cold cuts, sausage, hot dogs, processed ham -contain nitrates which convert into nitrosamines in the bodywhich are cancer causing agents of the bladder, esophagus, stomach, brain, and oral cavity. (Organic, grass fed meat)
• Among many things sugar depresses your immune system, accelerates aging and osteoporosis and signals your body to storefat throughincreased insulin production.
• Sugaris addictive.Sugarspikes your blood sugar and thenit crashes making you crave sugar again as apick me up.Moreover, sugar depletes your body's zinc reserves.Depletion of zincrobs your sense of taste thereby making youwant more sugar than before to achieve the same level of satisfaction. .
• Stay away fromdiet soda!Products touting the fact they are "sugar free" often contain the artifical sweetener called "aspartame." Aspartame in the body changes into 3 chemicals -formaldehyde (used for embalming), formic acid (used for insecticides) and aspartic acid which is an excitotoxin that overstimulatesnerve cells possibly causing permanent damage to thenervous system.
• MSG or"monosdium glutamate."MSG enhances the taste of foods bymaking your taste buds more sensitive.MSG also contains glutamic acid which is known to be neurotoxic by exciting neurons to death. Alsoanimals studies have shown monosodium glutamate tocause lesions in the hypothalamus. By damaging thehypothalamus where appetite is controlled you tend to have a runaway appetite. Monosodium glutamate also increases the production of insulin which eventually causes your blood sugar to drop making you hungry again.
• Have the habit of always reading the ingredients label of packaged foods. Stay away foods that contain the following: Partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated, high fructose corn syrup, monosodium glutamate, sodium benzoate combined with vitamin C or abscorbic acid, corn oil, artificial colors (i.e. yellow 5, red 40) and aspartame.
• Fried foods contain acrylamides which mutate DNA.

More on Eating

• Often the root of the problem is emotional eating. Read the seventh pillar of health - Happiness.
• Fats contain a hormone called leptin. And it takes 20 minutes after you start eating for leptin to be detected by the small intestine and then by the brain. So if you eat too fast, you may have already eaten way past your limit but your body has not sensed it yet. That's why it is beneficial to chew 20-30 times for each bite. Chewing allows for increased digestion and absorption.
• When you eat a diet void of nutrients you often feel hungry shortly after eating because your body is sending hunger signals for nutrients.
• If you do not eat at regular times you tend to gain weight because when your body lacks food it goes into emergency mode slowing down all metabolic processes.

Essential Fatty Acids and the Inflammation Syndrome

• Most important supplements are fish oil and an a multivitamin. In Jack Challem's book, The Inflammation Syndrome, he explains inflammation being the underlying cause of many of today's prominent diseases. Fish oil provides omega 3 fatty acids that offsets inflammation caused by the typical American pro-inflammatory diet. Omega 6 is what turns on our immune system and omega 3 is what turns off our immune system. The ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 should be between 1:1 to 2:1 but the typical American diet is 30:1. Therefore the immune system is always on and begins to attack healthy cells causing inflammatory diseases like heart disease, diabetes, allergies, Alzheimer's, and many more. Omega 3 fatty acids are converted inthe body intoDHA and EPA. Fish oil is the best omega 3 supplement because it is rich in DHA and EPA so the body does not have not convert it.

Supplements

• The fertilizer that our produce grows out of have an average of 12 minerals when during paleolitihic times it had 70 minerals. Remember, without minerals vitamins are useless.Furthermore, wecook our foods killing important enzymes for digestion and assimilation of nutrients into our body.

4. Exercise

What are the benefits of exercise?

• Your heart just like your car lasts for a certain amount of mileage. What exercise does is make your heart stronger so it pumps more blood with each beat. By doing this your heart is allowed to lower the rate it beats thus reducing the rate it accumulates "mileage."An active person has a heart that beats 60-70 times per minute and an inactive person's heart beats 80 times or more a minute.
• Blood flows to the heart only in between beats thus the less frequent the heart beats the longer period of time there is in between beats - the more time there is themore blood an oxygen can flow into the heart. Since the leading cause of death is cardiovascular disease you can see why a healthy heart is so important.
• When you have clogged arteries exercise can form new arteries called collateral arteries to bypass the clogged ones.
• The toxins, cellular waste, virus and bacteria in your body is found in a fluid called lymph. Lymph vessels run parallel to blood vessels. Through the circulation of lymph its unwanted contentsis filtered through filtering centers called lymph nodes. However, the only way lymph can circulate and go through these filtering centers is through muscle contraction - in other words movement and exercise.There is three times more lymph than there is blood whichshowshow important lymph is.
• Exercise, namely anaerobic exercise like strength training, increases your metabolic rate. Your metabolic rate is the rate at which your body converts food into energy.
• Contradictory to what you may have heard, exercise decreases your appetite when youstay within your target heart rate For people who exercise too intensely they experience hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which explains their ravenous appetite after exercise.
• Great for diabetics because you get to use up the excess glucose in your blood.
• Induces perspiration. Your skin is considered your "third kidney" because it excretes so much toxins.
• Strengthens your immune system.
• Slows down the aging process. In one study exercise was found to be just as effective in slowing down the aging process as taking antioxidant supplements.
• Builds strong bones.
• Improves digestion and health of the GI tract.
• One of the best ways to improve restful sleep.
• Reduces depression. It increases serotonin and dopamine production which are feel good chemicals produced in the brain.A four month study found exercise to be just as effective as anti-depression medications. This is a real plus when you think about the common side effects and that some anti-depressants no longer become effective after a period of time.
• Improves memory retention and reaction time. Prolonged exposure to cortisol (a stress hormone) makes the brain cells less able to take up glucose - which it uses for energy.
• Exercise increases lung capacity. This is especially important since our lung capacity decreases as we age.

Learn to pace yourself

• Going beyond your target heart rate will generate an overload of free radicals damaging your muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, suppressing your immune system andmaking you susceptible to infection.
• You can calculate your target heart rate by subtracting your age from 220. Multiply that number by 0.6 and then multiply the same number by 0.9. This is your target heart rate range. If you haven't exercised in years begin at 60% and then increase by 5% every few weeks. Never start at 90%.
• Start slow with a few minutes a day for a few weeks then work you way up towards a goal appropriate for your age and condition. Most adults should exercise 30 minutes or more on most days, children60 minutes preferably on all days, and pregnant women, if there are no medical or obsteric complications, 30 minutes or more on most days.
• Stay away from running if you are obese as it willtrigger arthritis.
• Do not be a "weekend warrior" by not exercising at all then working out intensely once a week. This will make you susceptible to injury, inflammation and even a heart attack or stroke.
• If you worry exercising might be a health hazard for youget an EKG to see if you have a heart fit enough to exercise.

Benefits of anaerobic exercise (Strength training)

• Elevates metabolism, improves posture, provides better support for joints, increases muscle mass thus reverses muscle loss associated with aging, builds bone to prevent osteoporosis, increases feel good chemicals such dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine which improve mood and combat depression.

Techniques to anaerobic exercise

• Begin with a 5-10 minute aerobic exercise to avoid injury.
• Find a weight where you can do at least 8 repetitions but no more than 12.
• Exhale during the hard part of the lift.
• Initially rest 1-2 minutes between sets of working the same muscle group. Eventually you will be able to rest 30 seconds between sets.
• Over the weeks increase the weight by no more than 5% if your strength improves.
• Work out 3 times a week.

Stretching

• For arthritics stretching before working out is a must.
• Inhale deeply before the stretch and exhale during.
• Stretch slowly without any bouncing. There should be no pain.

• Yoga - incorporatesthe body, mind and spirit. As will be explained later, stress or repetitive negative thought patterns manifest itself into a physical disease. Yoga, in a sense kills two bird with one stone by destressing your body, clearing your mind and at the same time exercising your body.
• Taichi - especially good for older people and arthritics.

• It may take up two3 weeks before your body will desire and feel the need to exercise. Be patient.
• Make it a part of your schedule. Treat it like a doctor's appointment.
• The best time to exercise is either before breakfast, lunch or dinner. Avoid exercising after meals because blood will be redirected from your digestive system to your muscles and digestion will be impaired. And if you exercise too late the stress hormones will keep you from going to sleep.
• Pick an exercise you enjoy.
• Have a partner.
• Choose a location that you will enjoy.
• Change it up by changing the location, time of day or exercise.
• Grab opportunities throughout the day - for instance, parking farther away.

5. Detoxification

There are not only toxins found in our foods but there are toxins found in the products that we use. The truth is weare surrounded by toxins everywhere we go. However in knowing the sources of toxins we cangreatly limit our exposure to toxins.It's impossible to study all the sources of toxins so learn to trust your senses.

Household Products

• Some dirt actually strengthens the immune system. But today we are removing dirt with products that replace it with toxic chemicals that we breathe in the air and absorb into our skin. One of the biggest sources of indoor air pollution iscleaning products. And often indoor air is more polluted than outdoor air.
• Household products contain solvents, which are chemicals used to dissolvematerials not soluble in water.
• Particleboard, pressed wood, carpet padding, carpet glues, upholstered furniture, curtains and bedding canemit formaldehyde which may cause fatigue, headaches and even cancer.
• According to the Environmental Protection Agency, phenol and cresol found in disinfectants arecorrosive, cause diarrhea, fainting, dizziness and kidney and liver damage.
• The EPA states that nitrobenzene found in furniture and floor polishes can cause skin discoloration, shallow breathing, vomiting, cancer and birth defects.
• According to the Department of Health and Human Services, perchloroethylene (Perc), commonly used in dry cleaning is a carcinogen, and has caused liver and kidney tumors in laboratory animals. To avoid the damages of perc air out your dry cleaned clothes for a few days before wearing them.
• Benzene which is considered a Class A carcinogen by the EPA is found in carpet cleaners, cleaning fluids, conditioners, detergents, furniture, nail polish, paint, plastics, solvents, vinyl floorings, wood finishes and even in some soft drinks. Even some sodas contain Benzene. And if they do not, then if they contain sodium benzoate or potassium benzoate AND vitamin C, this combinationcan form into benzene when it is exposed to heat or light.
• Perfumes, nail polish, Shampoos, Hair Dyes, Synthetic air fresheners, Teflon

• General All-Purpose Cleaner:Mix 1/2 tsp washing soda and1/2 tsp liquid soap or detergent into spray bottle. Then add 2 cups of hot water. Shake the bottle to mix ingredients. For tough dirt leaver cleaner on longer.Shake the bottle before use. It will keep indefinitely.
• All-Purpose Window Wash: Add 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar, 1/2tsp liquid soap or detergent and 2 cups of water into spray bottle and shake to blend.
• Basic Wood Cleaning Formula:Mixthe following ingredients into a bowl; 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 tspliquid soap or detergent anda few drops of olive oil. Saturate the sponge with the mixture and then squeeze out the excess. Wipe the wood with the sponge and then dry with a soft cloth.
• vinegar pulls the dirt and the oil keeps wood from drying out.
• Dirtiest part of bathroom is actually the sink not the toilet.

• Healthy Pillows, made of foam, choose organic/wool, air pillows in the sun, watch for mold. Wool pillows are esp good for allergies because dust mites can't live in them. Wool absorbs moisture and then releases it.

• Silver amalgam dental fillings are 50% mercury. Each filling containing 250, 000 mcg and releasing 10 mcg a day. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, mercury is the third most toxic substance known to mankind. Mercury when ingested enters the cell membrane and the immune system then recognizes the cell as an abnormal cell generating an autoimmune attack. Mercury can also keep you from sweating which is one of the main ways your body releases toxins. The dental community believes that mercury is tightly bonded to other metal components in fillings however research has proven that after chewing, mercury vapors in the mouth are 54 times higher in people with amalgam fillings than people without amalgam fillings.

• Vaccines may contain heavy metals, chemicals, microbes, animal and humanyby-productsand worst of all a mercury preservative called thimerosal. Thimerosal was once used in every children's vaccine for hepatitis B which was followed by 32 shots by the age of 2.

Other Sources of Toxins

• Personal care products also have many toxic chemicals. Whatever you are going to put on your body make sure it is all natural. The skin easily absorbs chemicals.I personally usepersonal care products made byBurt's Bees.
• The average bed contains 2 million dust mites. They feed off dead skin cells and we slough off 10 grams of dead skin cells a week. Dust mites also like to live in down/feather pillows, stuffed toys, piles of clothes, and couch pillows. Replace your pillows with synthetic fibers and get your pillows and mattress encased. 10 percent ofthe weight of a two year old pillow or as as much as two pounds can be composed of dust mites and their droppings. A good dust mite encasement that does not create many sounds is a vinyl mattress protector made by J Lamb.
• Indoor air is usually more polluted than outdoor air. That is why it is important to remove chemicals from inside your house (i.e. under the sink) and get an air filter. Also, open your windows to allow for cross airventilation.
• Gas stove releasesnitrogen dioxideinto air. One study showed showed highest source of inhaled pollution is cooking with a gas stove. Always turn on your exhaust fan and open your windows when cooking.
• Secondhand smoke is just as bad as smoking. You inhale 4000 chemicals through secondhand smoke. If you smoke, "The Easyway to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr is a must read. Hereare a few of the main points.
• tight shoes is just an illusion. There is no benefit in smoking.
• Attack the main problemwhich is the brainwashing. The nicotine addiction is easy to overcome.

Toxins Found in "Natural Foods"

• The produce highest in pesticides are apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach and strawberries. According to the EPA, the fruits with the highest amount of pesticides are nectarines, pears and peaches.Peelthe skin before eating them! The vegetables with the highest pesticide content arespinach, celery and potatoes. So try to buy organic when buying the above produce. • When buying non-organic produce make sure it is grownlocally.Imported produce do not have to follow the same guidelines as domestically grown produce. Imported produce and produce grown across the country are picked before they are ripened and sprayed wtih chemical preservatives for teh long trip.
• Do not eat farmed fish. They are fed pellets which are made of unwanted fish contaminated with many toxins. Farmed fish have 16 times more dioxin-like PCB's than wild salmon.Make sure the fishyou are eating is "wild."
• Peanuts andraisinsare high in pesticides.
• Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH)is injected in cows so they can produce more milk. This injected hormone often causes udder infections so the cows require more antibiotics and even results in pus in the milk.rBGH is banned in Europe and Canada but is not regulated by the FDA.

6.Active Oxygen

• There is nothing more vital to your life thanoxygen.If you don't believe me hold your breath.The problem comes because our environment is so oxygen deficientwhich in turn makes ourbodiesoxygen deficientcausing all of our cells to be weak and susceptible to the onslaught of toxic chemicals, viruses, bacteria and fungi.Theenvironment's oxygen level is only 21% when it use to be 38-50%.And much of that available oxygen is attached to pollution.
• To understand why the environment is so oxygen deficient we must first look tothe main sources of oxygen which isplankton andterrestrial plants. Plankton (found in the sea)uses sunlight in the processof photosynthesisto produce half of the world's oxgyen. The rest of the world's oxygen is produced by terrestrial plants. However due to air/sea pollution and deforestation it greatly inhibits how much oxygencan produced.
• The oxygen produced by plankton and terrestial plants go up into the atmosphere and the sun's UV rays then shine on the oxgyen breaking them apart into oxygen singlets. Because this is unstable the oxygen singlets recombine into ozone (O3). They can form oxygen chains up to as much as 20-30 oxygen atoms. This form of oxygen is unstable and it wants toreturn to itsstable form O2. To do this it releases oxygen singlets. Because ozone is heavier than air it falls back to the earth. As it falls it is constantly releasing active oxygen. This active oxygen can combine with water in clouds and form hydrogen peroxide (h3O2). When it rains it distributes hydrogen peroxide to plants which absorb into its matrix. Or, the ozone releases active oxygen into the air in which we breathe.

• Try before going to sleep writing down five things you are grateful for.
• Forgiveness: Often people think holding resentment or anger against somebody is a way of punishing them. However, the only person we are punishing is ourselves. Forgivenss isn't really about the other person it is about letting go of the resentment and going on with your life. It helps to know that people who hurt others are hurt themselves.
• We often live such hectic lives that we are immersed in our own problems. Thinking about making others happy will actually cultivate more happiness in your life. Spread loving kindness through your thoughts or actions whereever you are.

Plug Yourself in to spirit

• It is said that feeling disconnected from the Sprit is the number one cause of suffering and unhappiness.
• What keeps us from feeling disconnected? It is the perpetual constant activity in our life which stems from judging our self worth through our material achievements and accomplishments. This insane constant activity keeps us from tapping in to our inner silence where we derive our wisdom, strength and meaning. We do this to the extent that we're scared of being bored. Thus when we are not checking off things on our to do list then we resort to entertaining ourselves by watching TV, playing computer games, surfing the net as opposed doing something purposeful and meaningful.
• What are ways to connect with our Spirit? One of best methods is to meditate. Meditate for everyday for at least 10 minutes. (how to meditate pg 196-7) Throughout the day you can aslo do Pause Practice where you choose seven different times to clear your mind for 1-2 minutes and just be, being fully conscious of the present moment.
• Inner Listening: Normally people look outside for answers - asking everybody and their mothers for what to do when most often the answer lies within. You can try setting aside some quiet time and think about something that has been on your mind. Write down on a peice of paper everything that comes to your mind without censoring anything. Let your thoughts flow out of you, out of your Spirit. Do not read what you wrote as your writing. After you are done, look back at what you wrote and you will often find the answer that you have been looking for.
• Doing all that you can and then surrending and letting go. Trusting the process of life, as opposed to trying to control everything or having everything figured out, is the only way for you to make real progress and move forward. Marci Shimoff, author of Happy for No Reason, describes as being on a trapeze and if you are not able to surrender and let go you cannot move to the next trapeze making you stuck.
• Write a letter to the Spirit, writing from your heart about something you want assistance with. Write about your innermost goals, desires. Now is the time to let go. Put it away in a secret hiding place. Look back at it in a couple of months and see how things have changed.
